Leica Birding Workshop with Cameron Cox
On Sept. 14-15, 2012 Eagle Optics is hosting a birding workshop with Cameron Cox, product specialist for Leica Optics, in Middleton, Wisconsin. Beginning with an informative birding talk on Friday evening, Cameron will explore factors that come into play every time we look at a bird. He will present tips for making bird identification faster and easier, and explain how to develop good habits to maximize your birding and, along the way, challenge some long-established birding dogma. The evening session will wrap up with Cameron providing a brief summary of the best books and electronic resources for birders, and an overview of cameras and high-end optics for birders. A handout covering all these subjects will be provided. Questions and discussion are more than welcome, particularly during the social hour following the talk. Refreshments will be provided.
On Saturday morning we will test some of the tips from the talk in a fun and easy-going field trip to one of the excellent local birding areas in the area, where we will attempt to learn more about birds. The workshop is not just for intermediate birders; everyone from the beginner to the expert is welcome. Join Leica and Eagle Optics in this fun event! Cameron Cox has been an avid birder for almost 20 years. Birding adventures have led him all corners of North America, from southern Mexico to the Pribilof Island in the Bering Sea. He is particularly interested in the identification challenges presented by waterbirds and is currently working on a flight identification guide to eastern waterbirds to be published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. He spent over 10 years as a “bird bum” traveling from one low-paying bird field-tech position to another, learning as much as he could about bird identification and behavior at every stop. His current job title is much more reputable, Product Specialist for Leica Sport Optics. You can now find him at birding events, leading field trips and explaining the merits of spectacular optics.
